Introduction to Skin Resurfacing Lasers

Skin quality gradually changes over time as collagen production slows and environmental damage accumulates. Fine lines, uneven texture, pigmentation irregularities, and acne scars can leave the skin looking tired or prematurely aged. At Enzer & Associates, PC, Dr. Yoash Enzer offers advanced laser resurfacing treatments designed to improve skin texture, tone, and overall appearance, with a customized approach to rejuvenation.

Dr. Enzer carefully evaluates each patient’s skin concerns, skin condition, and recovery preferences to determine the most appropriate resurfacing treatment plan.

What are Skin Resurfacing Lasers?

Skin resurfacing lasers are advanced treatments that improve skin tone, texture, pigmentation, and overall skin quality by stimulating collagen production and promoting healthy skin renewal.

At Enzer & Associates in Providence, RI, Dr. Enzer offers both Fraxel® laser treatments and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) laser resurfacing. While both treatments rejuvenate the skin, they differ in intensity, recovery time, and the concerns they address most effectively.

Fraxel® laser treatments use fractionated laser technology to create microscopic treatment zones within the skin while leaving surrounding tissue intact. This approach promotes faster healing while improving fine lines, sun damage, uneven pigmentation, and mild textural concerns.

How Do I Choose Between Fraxel® and CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

The best resurfacing treatment depends on the severity of the skin concerns being addressed, the desired level of correction, and the amount of downtime a patient is comfortable with.

Fraxel® laser treatments are often ideal for patients seeking improvement in early signs of aging, mild pigmentation concerns, fine lines, and uneven skin texture with less downtime.

CO2 laser resurfacing is typically better suited for patients with deeper wrinkles, more advanced sun damage, acne scarring, or significant skin laxity who are seeking more dramatic skin rejuvenation.

During your consultation, Dr. Enzer will evaluate your skin and determine which resurfacing approach is best aligned with your goals.

What Are the Benefits of Skin Resurfacing Lasers?

  • Improves skin tone and texture: Helps smooth rough skin and improve overall skin quality.
  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles: Stimulates collagen production for firmer, more youthful-looking skin.
  • Improves sun damage and pigmentation: Helps reduce uneven pigmentation, discoloration, and age spots.
  • Softens acne scars and textural irregularities: Laser resurfacing can help refine uneven skin texture and improve the appearance of scarring.
  • Customized treatment options: Fraxel® and CO2 laser treatments can be tailored to different skin concerns, recovery preferences, and aesthetic goals.

Who Are the Best Candidates for Skin Resurfacing Lasers?

What to Expect on the Day of Skin Resurfacing Laser Treatment

Skin resurfacing laser treatments are performed in the office and vary in intensity depending on the treatment selected.

Before treatment begins, the skin is cleansed, and a topical anesthetic may be applied to improve comfort. During treatment, patients often describe the sensation as warmth or a mild snapping feeling against the skin.

Fraxel® treatments are generally quicker and involve less downtime, while CO2 laser resurfacing is more intensive and may require a longer recovery period.

Following treatment, patients commonly experience redness, swelling, warmth, and temporary skin sensitivity as the healing process begins.

Combining My Skin Resurfacing Laser Treatment with Other Procedures

Many Providence patients combine laser resurfacing with other non-surgical treatments to achieve more comprehensive facial rejuvenation results.

Chemical Peels

In select cases, chemical peels may be incorporated into a long-term skin rejuvenation plan to help maintain smoother, brighter-looking skin.

Injectable Treatments

Neuromodulators and facial fillers can complement laser resurfacing by addressing dynamic wrinkles and volume loss, while laser resurfacing improves overall skin quality and texture.

Medical-Grade Skincare

Professional skincare products may help support healing, maintain results, and improve long-term skin health following laser resurfacing treatments.

Skin Resurfacing Laser Recovery

Recovery and downtime vary depending on the intensity of the laser treatment performed.

  • Following Fraxel® treatments, patients typically experience temporary redness, mild swelling, and a sandpaper-like texture for several days as the skin heals.
  • CO2 laser resurfacing typically involves more downtime, with redness, peeling, crusting, and skin sensitivity lasting longer as deeper skin renewal occurs.

While some improvement may become visible within several weeks, collagen remodeling and skin refinement continue gradually over the following months. Multiple Fraxel® sessions may be recommended for optimal improvement, while CO2 laser resurfacing often produces significant results after a single treatment.
