What’s New With Dr. Enzer

Dr. Enzer is attending the January 2012 international meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in Las Vegas, Nevada to network with colleagues and bring the latest and best technology back to Rhode Island for our patients.

Additionally, Dr. Enzer was reappointed as a scientific article reviewer for Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which is the most prestigious professional journal for oculofacial plastic surgery. The editor-in-chief selects the leading physicians in the country to evaluate all submitted articles in order to decide whether they have sufficient merit for publication. Although reading and critiquing these articles can be quite time consuming, Dr. Enzer is proud that his peers value his opinion, and therefore he strives to maintain the highest quality for his medical specialty.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Have you been considering skin laser treatments for wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, facial redness or broken blood vessels? After laser resurfacing, your skin is very delicate and vulnerable to the harsh UVA and UVB rays from the sun. With less outdoor activities and fewer hours of daylight, winter is the ideal time of year for these procedures. See our before and after photos here:

Winter Skin Care

Many of us experience dry, dull skin during the winter months. The natural dip in the air’s humidity in addition to the dry heat from heating systems dries out our skin and can leave it looking flaky and dull. Our mantra for healthy, glowing skin this season is Exfoliate, Hydrate, Protect. Read on for tips on how to winter-proof your skin and keep the dull skin blues away!

Exfoliate: Healthy winter skin starts with exfoliation. Depending on your skin type, we recommend beginning either a chemical or mechanical exfoliation regimen to remove the buildup of dry skin cell layers and reveal the fresh, youthful skin underneath. Chemical exfoliants include chemical peels, and mechanical exfoliants include scrubs and microdermabrasion.

However, most of us do not need to exfoliate every day – too much exfoliation can damage your skin, making it irritated and rough, and may even cause breakouts. It is important to exfoliate just enough to remove dead skin cell layers without damaging the healthy layers underneath.

Hydrate: The next step to glowing winter skin is to moisturize daily and especially after exfoliation, when the skin is most receptive to moisture. You may want to consider using a different, more emollient moisturizer during the winter months. Oftentimes the lotions we use during the spring and summer do not adequately protect our skin during the winter.

Additionally, we recommend using a humidifier in your work space or bedroom to replace the moisture in the air. This will help keep your skin supple and hydrated.

Protect: Sun protection is the final step in winter-proofing your skin. Using sunscreen products every day is a great way to shield and nurture your skin during the winter months, as well as keep your skin looking young for years to come. We offer a variety of sunscreen products that are great for everyday use, as well as for those with special skin care concerns.

Product Recommendations

Exfoliation: We offer a variety of chemical peels to help remove dry, damaged outer layers of skin. We recommend our Refinity Peel, which gives you noticeable results after your first treatment. This moderate peel should be done as a series of two to four week treatments for optimal results.

Moisturizers: Our favorite winter-time moisturizer is Epionce’s Extreme Barrier Cream. This super-hydrating cream helps to strengthen the skin barrier in its driest areas. It’s also a great skin care product for those who stay active outdoors during the winter months.

Sunscreens: For everyday use, we recommend EltaMD sunscreen and Epionce’s Active Shield sunscreen. Ava Anderson Non-Toxic sunscreen is a wonderful choice for those with sensitive skin, or for those who are concerned about toxicity in their skin care products. To maintain your glycolic routine, use Vivite sunscreen products, which contain glycolic acids and are the perfect complement to those with an existing glycolic skin care regimen. For post-procedure protection, use Solar Protection Original or Tinted sunscreens. This line of sunscreens is ideal for those patients who have just undergone a procedure such as laser resurfacing. As a medical-grade sunscreen, Solar Protection offers our most intensive protection for those with delicate, vulnerable skin.
