Before: This person’s legs were covered with very noticeable purple veins. Some people call them spider veins, but the medical term is telangiectasia. They are very common, especially in women. Most of the time they are only of cosmetic concern.

After: We discussed the treatment options and elected to proceed with sclerotherapy. This involves injecting an irritating medication in this case hypertonic saline (concentrated salt water) into each vein. The irritation created by the medication causes the dilated veins to scar closed. These photos show excellent results and required only three treatment sessions.
